Hello, I am Jose Alvarez, an abstract artist based in the Midwest. My journey into art began during a season of struggling with depression and anxiety.
I invite you to take time to notice each flowing design, and remember that your journey unfolds differently every day. Let them encourage you, knowing that each new day brings another chance to move forward with purpose and is like a blank canvas waiting to be filled with beauty.
My Story
In a group therapy session, I was asked about the small doodles I would create and how they made me feel. This
question — along with the encouragement of my therapist — sparked something in me and led me to begin expressing myself through art.
As I explored different mediums, I found myself most drawn to markers. I start each piece with black marker, creating a free-flowing, continuous framework that gives shape to the page. As I layer in color, my hand and soul move freely together resulting in palettes that bring both excitement and anticipation. For me, this process has become an act of worship, a reflection of the creativity God has placed within us all.
I’m reminded through the Bible in the book of Lamentations (3:22) that God’s love for me is vast and unwavering. My troubles will not overtake me, because His faithful love is renewed every morning. As I look through my artwork, each piece reflects that promise and fills me with hope to keep going.
